Thank you for signing up for our newsletter. This
edition includes the latest information on
trip sign up, some gear tips, feedback from our
clients and upcoming local events of interest. I
have posted our previous newsletters on our website.
We are in the midst of our warm summer trips when we
take advantage of the refreshing Escalante River.
Our day hiking is interrupted by frequent dunks in
countless swimming holes. Above is a photo of the
group in camp preparing for the day of hiking.
If you're planning a trip to the red rock canyons of
southern Utah be sure to give us a call or email any
questions.

Over the years we have been asked many times if
hiking poles are needed on our trips and, honestly,
I cannot think of a reason to leave them home.
Today's telescoping poles are lightweight, packable
and very handy.
Hiking poles reduce the stress on your knees when
you are going downhill and provide an extra point of
balance on our frequent Escalante River crossings.
Many of our clients bring one pole and some pack
two. Hiking poles are great for an extra push off
when headed uphill.

"My feet are recovering from the trip but my soul is
permanently changed." P.L., California
"The wonderful staff worked so hard and kept things
moving at all times. I was very impressed! It was
a real vacation for me. Beautiful scenery,
wonderful hikes, great food and lots of humor!"
J.W., California
"I wanted to again express my appreciation for the
great trip we had last week. I have spent a lot of
time in the back country - alone, with friends and
with groups - and this was one of the best weeks
I've had. Some of what makes for a good trip is hard
to control - the weather was great, the group was
congenial and well matched - but the preparation,
knowledge, experience and hard work that the three
of you put in made for a particularly pleasant and
memorable experience for us." E.B., Massachusetts
"As always, thank you for a fabulous trip into the
Escalante. I feel so lucky I found you guys and so
glad I got to take another trip with you." L.W.,
Massachusetts

The Boulder
Heritage Festival celebrates the broad cultural
diversity and rich history of Boulder, UT by
providing a forum where contemporary Boulder can
enrich itself in connecting with its past.
The Festival, held at the Anasazi State Park, will
be on July 13, 14 & 15 and will include music,
presentations and a reenactment of mail delivery to
town on the Old Boulder Mail Trail.
The Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument is
observing its 10th Anniversary with a three day
science symposium called Learning
from the Land. The symposium will be held in
Cedar City, UT from September 12 - 14 and
will focus
primarily on completed or ongoing research on the
Monument, the results of cooperation between the BLM
and the scientific community.
The third annual Escalante
Canyons Arts Festival (Everett Ruess Days) will
be October 2 - 8 in Escalante
and Boulder. Festival events include the Plein Air
Painting Competition, a fine arts and crafts
exhibition and sale, lectures, poetry slams, films
about Everett Ruess, exhibits, workshops, gallery
open houses, walking tours of nearby historic
